What Saith The Scriptures?

He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
(Matthew 3: 11)

For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.
(1 Corinthians 4: 20)

CALLED TO BE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
(Ephesians 5: 18)

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed;” (Luke 4: 18 )

You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1: 8)

“As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”(John 20: 21)

And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. (Mark 16: 20)

THE HOLY SPIRIT INFILLING THE MESSIAH PROPHESIED

The Spirit of The Lord upon the Branch from the stem of Jesse (Isaiah 11: 1-4a)
The Spirit of The Lord upon the Anointed One (Isaiah 61: 1-3)
John the baptiser told by the Spirit that he would see the Spirit descend and remain on the One who will baptise others with the Holy Spirit  (John 1: 32-33)

THE HOLY SPIRIT INFILLING JESUS ATTESTS THAT HE IS THE MESSIAH

God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power (Acts 10: 38)

The Spirit of God descended upon Jesus at His water baptism. (Matthew 3: 16)
John bore witness (John 1: 32-34)
Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness (Luke 4: 1-2)
Afterwards, Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit (Luke 4: 14)
And they were astonished at His doctrine for His word was with power (Luke 4: 32)

Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him (Acts 2: 22)

Jesus proclaims Himself anointed with The Spirit (Luke 4: 18)
Jesus points to the clearly seen signs as evidence that He is The One spoken of in Isaiah 61…..

The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them.” (Matthew 11: 5-6)

“If I cast out demons with the finger of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.” (Luke 11: 20)

THE OUTPOURING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT PROMISED THROUGH THE PROPHETS

The promised Spirit accompanies a new heart (Ezekiel 36: 25)
The promised Spirit empowers holy living (Ezekiel 36: 25-27)
The promised Spirit likened to a pouring forth of water that causes fruitfulness (Isaiah 44: 3-4)
The promised Spirit for all flesh with prophesying and visions following (Joel 2:28, 29)
The promised Spirit to be given by Jesus Christ (John 1: 29-34)

JESUS PROMISES THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT TO BELIEVERS

He that believes on Me, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water (John 7: 37-39)
The disciples were to told by Jesus forty days after His resurrection to wait for the “promise of The Father” at Jerusalem….

  • until ye be endued with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49)
  • you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” (Acts 1: 4-5)
  • You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1: 8)

THE HOLY SPIRIT INFILLING ATTESTING THE GOSPEL MESSAGE

After tarrying in the upper room on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2: 1-11)
While praying for boldness after Peter and  John were released (Acts 4: 24-31)
After Philip preached in Samaria (Acts 8: 12-17)
When Saul was chosen by The Lord Jesus at Damascus (Acts 9: 1-20)
While Peter preached at the house of the gentile Cornelius (Acts 10: 34-48)
After Paul and Barnabas preached at Antioch and moved on to Iconium (Acts 13: 49-52)
When Paul met certain disciples in Ephesus (Acts 19: 1-6)

Paul preached….

  • Not in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit (1 Thess 1: 5)
  • ..not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. (1 Corint. 2: 4-5)
  • In mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. (Romans 15: 19)

THE INFILLING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT ATTESTS THAT JESUS IS NOW EXALTED

The Holy Spirit to be received after Jesus is glorified (John 7: 39)
Peter declaring the meaning of the manifestation of the promised Spirit (Acts 2: 32: 36)
Peter declaring the attestation of the Holy Spirit to the high priest ( Acts 5: 30-32)

THE PROMISED HOLY SPIRIT TO BE RECEIVED AS A GIFT BY BELIEVERS

Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call. (Acts 2: 38)
