Bible Study

Dear Reader, it is most recommended, if you are able, that you physically write out all verses mentioned below in full, perhaps in a notebook. Not only are these verses helpful as a reference, but seeing and reading combined verses on a particular theme from the whole council of God’s Word is highly beneficial for spiritual growth. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and to illuminate His word to you, and to impart the faith needed to be both a hearer and a doer. Remember, He is our Wonderful Helper!

To gain the most benefit from these readings, allow time for thinking on each verse, prayerfully asking yourself these questions, making notes on your reflections…..

Do I believe this? If not, Mark 9:23-24, Hebrews 11:6
Am I willing to act on this? If not, Romans 12:1
Am I acting on this? If not, Galatians 2:20, Philippians 4:13

The Power to Walk in God’s Will

PART  3   Holy unto Me (Leviticus 20:26)

It is God’s will that His children shine with His light while living in a dark world. When we realise through God’s Word and with the help of the Holy Spirit that we have been literally taken from one kingdom to another, then we can walk as dead to sin and the world, and alive unto God.

1. The Bible makes very clear distinctions between the light and the darkness, the flesh and the spirit, clean and unclean, the world and the Kingdom of God. There is no mixture, no in-between; rather a clear dividing line of separation. The following verses make clear the condition of the “world,” and why it is in darkness.

a)  1 John 5:19, 2 Corinthians 4:4, Galatians 1:4, Ephesians 6:12, Ephesians 2:2

2. Jesus states His position in the “world” and that of His followers in the next verses. Take particular note of the world’s response to God’s light.

a)   John 8:23, 18:36, John 8:12, John 1:5, John 3:19
b)  John 1:10-13, 1 John 3:1, John 17:14-16
c)  Matthew 5:14-16, 1 Peter 1:23, Revelation 5:9-10, Colossians 1:13-14

3. The children of God are called to be Saints (1 Corinthians 1:2), meaning holy. To be holy is to be separated and purified from everything that defiles in order to be set apart to God. The word sanctified has the same meaning as holy. How are the Saints made holy?

a)     Acts 26:18, Colossians 1:21-22, 1:13-14, Titus 2:14, Hebrews 9:13-14
b)    Ephesians 5:25-27, Titus 3:3-7, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
c)     John 14:16-17, 1 Peter 1:23, 2 Thessalonians 2:13, John 17:19, 17, 1 Corinthians 2:12
d)    Acts 2:38, Mark 1:15, 1 John 1:9

4. Read the following verses and consider God’s wisdom in separation, and ask The Lord if there is something of the world that you are holding on to, perhaps unwittingly.

a)    1 John 2:15-17, James 4:4, Romans 12:2
b)    Colossians 3:2, Matthew 6:24, 33

5. Can you say the following with Paul? Galatians 6:14.

PART 4  Access to the Throne

Regardless of wealth, nationality, sex, age or social status, all of God’s children have equal access to come before the throne of God by means of prayer, through faith in the finished work of Christ.

1. When a problem or need arises, we instinctively seek an immediate answer or a speedy solution, and our tendency is to make every effort to solve it ourselves.  What is God able to do?

a)    Ephesians 3:20, 2 Corinthians 9:8, Luke 1:37, Isaiah 45:2, 1 Corinthians 10:12-13,
       2 Thessalonians 3:3, Matthew 11:28, Philippians 4:19

2. As children of light, what do we need to be aware of when faced with challenges that we’re tempted to go through without seeking The Lord?

a)    Jeremiah 17:5-6, Psalm 118:8, John 6:63

3. When we pray, we are demonstrating confidence that God will act on our behalf. Read the following verses of invitation from God, and see HOW He desires us to come before Him.

a)    Luke 11:9, John 14:13-14, Matthew 21:22, Mark 11:24, Psalm 105:4
b)   Hebrews 11:6, 4:16, Matthew 6:5-7, John 15:7, Philippians 4:6, 2 Thessalonians 5:16-18

4. While we tend to seek speedy answers to prayer for relief’s sake, The Lord desires the precious fruit of patience and faith to grow, and sometimes puts this as the priority in the midst of our circumstances. Waiting is God’s design and when we have confidence that He cares for us and hears our prayer, we can fully lean on His faithfulness and have peace in the storm! The following verses give reassurance to those in waiting, and how to be during the wait.

a)    Lamentations 3:25, Philippians 4:19, Isaiah 40:31, Jeremiah 17:7-8, Romans 8:28, Isaiah 26:3
b)    Proverbs 3:5-6, Psalm 27:14, Lamentations 3:26, Psalm 37:4-5

5. With the all the above in mind, here are some verses of affirmation worth saving to memory that may help you to stand in faith in your time of need.

a) Psalm 138:8, Psalm 62:5-8, Psalm 9:10, Psalm 121:1-2, Isaiah 12:2
